National Engineering College (NEC), Kovilpatti, India is an autonomous institution offering engineering studies, affiliated to Anna University of Technology Tirunelveli, Tirunelveli.It is one among the various institutions setup by Mr.K.Ramasamy. The institution was started in the year 1984 (First among 20 self financing colleges started in 1984).

History

National Engineering College was started by K.Ramasamy, in 1984, with a vision of providing quality education to the rural people of southern Tamil Nadu. Initially, the college taught Computer Science and Engineering, ECE & Mechanical Engineering. Later the departments like Information Technology, Post graduations were added.

Accessibility

The college is located in the southernmost part of India. Chennai is the closest metropolitan city, around 600 km away, while Tirunelveli, Madurai and Trivandrum are the other major cities that are close by.

The institution runs under a trust formed by the chairman K.Ramasamy (called as KR), and his wife namely Chennammal Ramasamy and 2 children (Arunachalam, Krishnamoorthy) are listed as the nominee of the trust. It's one of the oldest institutes in the southern districts preceded only by the Mepco institute in Sivakasi. The institute offers modest placement services. The tuition fees are nominal but the college does have management seats (payment seats). It is particularly well known since it was set up two decades ago.
